APEC CCHE 2020

Description

On October 26, 2020, Far Eastern Federal University hosted the IX International Conference on Cooperation in Higher Education in APEC: "A New Era of Digital Education: A Multilateral Approach and Challenges for APEC Member Countries”. The event is an official initiative of the Russian Federation, implemented within the framework of the APEC Human Resources Development Working Group. The conference is held annually on the campus of Far Eastern Federal University on Russky Island (Vladivostok). Owing to the difficult epidemiological situation, the Organizing Committee of the conference decided to transfer the event to an online format. The conference consisted of two parts - the plenary session "Joint Solutions for Global Education and Sustainable Development" and the session "Digital Solutions for the Labor Market of the Future" - was held on the Zoom platform in English and Russian. The event brought together representatives of higher educational institutions, heads of state educational institutions and research institutes, experts, and representatives of the business community to discuss the prospects for the development of educational cooperation and partnerships in the field of human resources development in the Asia-Pacific region. The conference was attended by 60 representatives from more than 30 universities and educational organizations of 15 APEC economies: Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Chile, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, People's Republic of China, Peru, Thailand, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Vietnam and Russia. Also, the event was attended by 8 ministries of education (Russia, Peru, Philippines, Malaysia, China, Chinese Taipei, Mexico, and Indonesia).

Results

The participants discussed ways to improve educational systems and develop professional competencies in the context of accelerated digitalization. The conference acted as an integration platform for the exchange of international best practices in the implementation of educational projects, networking systems, improved mechanisms for diplomas verification, systems for exchanging data on training, employment, and structures for promoting more accessible and high-quality education.
