On the eve of the 48th anniversary of the liberation of South Vietnam from the American occupation, a thematic book exhibition opened in the Humanities Reading Room of the FEFU Library. University students and teachers recalled the heroic struggle of the Vietnamese people against the invaders, military operations and personalities who gave the friendly state long-awaited freedom, and the support provided by the Soviet Union in those difficult times.

The exhibition was opened by the head of the Vietnamese Cultural and Educational Center of the Oriental Institute - the School of Regional International Studies of the Far Eastern Federal University, Professor Alexander Sokolovsky. Yelena Radchenko, Head of the Humanities Reading Room, and Yegor Maidan, leading librarian, made a detailed review of the book exhibition, and Vietnamese Studies students of the Center prepared presentations.

Radmir Rakhmanov presented a report on Ho Chi Minh Campaign, the largest ground campaign of the Vietnam War, which put an end to almost 20 years of confrontation.

Ilya Khokhlov spoke about the outstanding Vietnamese commander, General Vo Nguyen Giap, Minister of Defense and Commander-in-Chief of the People's Army of Vietnam.

And Roman Tushakov prepared a report on the so-called "Ho Chi Minh Trail" - a combination of land and water transport routes that were used by the Democratic Republic of Vietnam for the transfer of military materials and troops.
As FEFU Vice President for International Relations Evgeny Vlasov noted, over the past 48 years since the victory over the United States, relations between Vietnam and Russia have only become stronger - the parties annually hold cultural exchanges and initiate joint projects in various fields.

“Vietnam is Russia's key partner in Southeast Asia, and our university has long-standing friendly relations with representatives of this country. Of course, we could not pass by the celebration of one of the most significant dates in the history of Vietnam - the day of the final liberation from foreign invaders. The Soviet Union in those years rendered serious support to the fraternal people in their struggle, and this determined the nature of relations between our states for decades to come. Till this day every year we are opening new pages in the history of our cooperation, with this year initiating joint research in the field of IT and agreeing to launch the Russian-Vietnamese Center for Artificial Intelligence in Hanoi. I am sure that in the future many more joint victories await us in science, education, and the development of human capital,” Evgeny Vlasov concluded.

It should be noted that currently FEFU Vietnamese Studies is one of the strongest schools in Russia. Since 1979, more than 200 qualified Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language specialists have been trained. Now more than 30 students are enrolled in the Vietnamese Studies educational program and annually train at the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities of Vietnam National University. In turn, more than 80 Vietnamese students are currently studying at FEFU.

The Department of Pacific Asia of the FEFU Oriental Institute, together with the Consulate General of Vietnam in Vladivostok, is holding the 20th Anniversary Olympiad in the Vietnamese language among Russian students studying the Vietnamese language, dedicated to the 48th anniversary of the liberation of South Vietnam. The results of the Olympiad and the awarding of its winners will be held on May 19 - the birthday of the first popularly elected president of the free country, Ho Chi Minh.
