On May 16, the All-Russian stage of the qualifying round of the World Chinese Language Contest “Chinese is a bridge” took place in Irkutsk. According to the results of the competition, the second place in the individual competition was won by the 1st year student of the Department of International Relations of the Oriental Institute of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) Lada Kim.

Every year, the qualifying rounds of the "Chinese is a bridge" competition are held in different cities of Russia and are held in three categories: students, schoolchildren and junior schoolchildren. The winner of the all-Russian stage represents Russia at the world stage, where the winners of the qualifying rounds from different countries meet.

This year, the Far Eastern Federal University team was represented by three students from the Oriental Institute - School of Regional and International Studies: Lada Kim, Mikhail Prodan and Anastasia Sapko. They performed well in the team standings among other 7 teams from all over Russia, but the best among them was the 1st year student of the Department of International Relations Lada Kim. She took second place in the individual competition according to the results of the All-Russian stage of the competition.

“For many years, students of the FEFU Oriental Institute have won prizes in the competition, and have repeatedly become representatives of our country in the finals. Today, more than 1,000 Russian students study the Chinese language at FEFU, and really act as a bridge between the two countries: they represent a generation of people who will build further cooperation in the region and the future of the state policy of our country,” emphasized FEFU President Boris Korobets.

It should be noted that the preparation for the All-Russian and world stages is carried out by teachers of the Confucius Institute on the basis of the FEFU Oriental Institute. It is part of a global network of Chinese cultural and educational organizations created by the Center for International Language Exchange and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China (PRC) together with foreign leading universities. In the new academic year, the FEFU Confucius Institute is increasing enrollment by 150 people.

Recall that the Far Eastern Federal University is rightfully considered one of the three largest centers of Oriental Studies in Russia. The University is actively involved in strengthening cooperation between Russia and China in various areas. FEFU cooperates with 50 partners from the People's Republic of China, and 12 FEFU Russian Language and Culture Centers operate in the China in return. The centers train foreign students who plan to further receive higher education in Russia.
