Jun 4, 2023 - FEFU News
A delegation from the People's Republic of China (PRC), headed by a member of the Politburo, a member of the Secretariat and Chairman of the Political and Legal Commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC Central Committee) Chen Wenqing, visited the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU). The guests toured the campus, attended a class of the Chinese Studies Department of the Oriental Institute - School of Regional and International Studies and learned about joint programs of the leading university in the Far East with partners from China.

The delegation was met by the governor of Primorsky Region Oleg Kozhemyako and the FEFU President Boris Korobets. The head of the university spoke about the history of the educational institution, life on campus, educational programs and areas of work. The President paid special attention to joint projects of FEFU with partners from China, as well as academic exchanges between educational institutions of the two countries.

The University, as one of the leading centers of Chinese Studies, actively participates in strengthening cooperation between Russia and China in various areas. There are already 12 FEFU Russian Language and Culture Centers in China. In 2023, Far Eastern Federal University will open three new Centers in the provinces of Hebei, Jiangsu and Shandong, where foreign students who plan to continue their higher education in Russia will study.

“The cooperation between FEFU and Chinese universities is multidisciplinary: we implement exchange programs, conduct joint research. Among our partners are universities of Harbin, Beijing, Shandong province, now we are increasingly interacting with the southern provinces of China. The universities of our countries are entrusted with a huge responsibility for the most necessary, basic stage in the development of the Russian-Chinese partnership, without which it is impossible to move forward in any of the areas of cooperation. We are proud that we have been training specialists in Oriental studies for more than 120 years - more than 1,000 people study Chinese at FEFU. We are doing everything possible so that graduates in Oriental studies will make a decisive contribution to strengthening our friendship and mutual understanding in the near future. And, of course, we hope to give the children from China who study with us a quality education and educate them as friends of Russia for life!” Boris Korobets stressed.

The guests could be convinced of the seriousness of the FEFU approach to the study of the Chinese language by visiting the class of the Chinese Studies Department of the Oriental Institute - the School of Regional and International Studies. During a short but meaningful conversation with the delegates of the CPC Central Committee, the students demonstrated a good level of language proficiency, and in return received warm wishes and instructions from the distinguished guests.

Politburo member Chen Wenqing, while talking with students, noted that the training of qualified personnel is the key to successful cooperation between the two countries. The representative of the CPC Central Committee wished the students success in learning the Chinese language and expressed confidence that in the future FEFU students will go to China to continue their studies and get to know the country's culture even better, and will also be able to contribute to the development of relations between Russia and China.
