Department of History and Archaeology

For more than 100 years, the Department of History and Archaeology has been a fundamental part of the Far Eastern Federal University. Our highly ranked programs combine teaching and research with award-winning results.

The beginning of history education in FEFU dates back to 1918 when the first private faculty of history and philology was opened in Vladivostok. Today the Department of History and Archaeology keeps the traditions and strives for innovations. The Department offers a variety of educational programs in history at different levels - bachelor's, master's and doctorate - and a broad range of specializations with the emphasis on regional history including the history of Russian Far East, Pacific archaeology and the history of Asia Pacific countries. Our graduates are trained to respond effectively to the challenges and opportunities in the field of socio-cultural cooperation in the Asia Pacific region. Today the Department has 26 highly qualified and dedicated faculty members. Our pursuit of excellence in teaching and research is boosted through the cooperation with various institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian State Historical Archives of the Far East, local museums and other cultural institutions.

The priority research topic of the Department of History and Archaeology is the history of the development and interaction of cultures and civilizations in the Asia Pacific region, which covers a wide range of issues from the socio-economic history of the Russian Far East to the history of migrations in the Pacific region in ancient times. The Department holds several major scientific events every year, the most renowned among them is the international symposiums in Pacific archeology that brings together the professional community of prominent archaeologists every spring. The Department has two research laboratories in the field of archaeological research and the study of cultural heritage sites, which work closely in cooperation with the Educational and Scientific Museum of FEFU. A significant achievement of FEFU archaeologists in recent years is the implementation of an international research project in Ecuador.

Department of Arts and Design

The Department of Arts and Design specializes in traditional and contemporary culture, art and design. We successfully combine the three most important creative sectors - culture, art and design. Our graduates are academic researchers, management managers in culture, art historians, art critics, designers. We teach to create works of art, to study, develop and preserve the world cultural heritage. Our professors and students participate in scientific conferences, seminars and symposiums, we make publish fundamental scientific articles in culture and art, actively participate in art exhibitions, and win international competitions in art and design. Regular workshops with the participation of Russian, Swiss, Korean, French leaders in art and design allow our students to correspond to the world level. Our professors and graduates are public people who give lectures, educate society, act as experts and critics.

Educational activities include all levels of study from undergraduate to postgraduate school. Educational programs in cultural studies focus on management in the socio-cultural sphere, cultural anthropology and creative industries. Particularly successful among international students is our master's program in Russian culture, which allows you to get acquainted with the unique traditions and modern trends in Russian culture. Art education programs include academic training for Master of Art in art history, modern research and design technologies in art history. We also training of master’s degree in arts and crafts. We teach to research and create works of arts and crafts. Design educational programs specialize in graphic, communicative, landscape and interior design. We focus on web, game design and digital arts. Our graduates work worldwide.

The Department of Arts and Design have specialized workshops and laboratory. Our students are working in sculpture and etching workshops, workshops on drawing, painting and ceramics, a design laboratory that allows students to develop a digital direction and create 3D visualizations, develop 3D printing skills, working with laser and milling machines.

The scientific focus of the department is determined by a unique combination of research areas in culture, art and design. Studies are aimed at the conceptual study, preservation, promotion of traditional and modern cultural and spiritual values, understanding of the national heritage of Russia and the Asia-Pacific countries. Every year, foreign students from China, South Korea and other countries enter graduate programs in cultural studies and art criticism. A dissertation council on the theory and history of culture has been opened at FEFU, which is based in the Department of Arts and Design.

A special place in the Department is occupied of continuing education programs and scientific internships in Russian and English on world art culture, art management and museum supervision, scientific internships in research in the field of culture and art. We carry out the mission of preparing applicants for creative directions FEFU at the Small Academy of Design.

Department of Psychology and Education

Through our research, instruction, and outreach, we are engaged in programs to generate new knowledge about education, teach the next generation of educators, and engage educational and community groups in improvement. We partner with colleagues at leading Russian Universities, in the education and business sectors, and government agencies to leverage resources to make a difference.

Many of our graduates are teachers, — yet our students and graduates are also researchers, counselors, psychologists, principals, superintendents, and university faculty and staff. Undeniably, an education degree can serve as the foundation for a career as a coach, analyst, psychologist.

The BA in Psychology emphasizes the fundamental principles of Psychology that can be applied to solve practical problems related to human behavior and society. You’ll gain a broad education in Psychology that is relevant to many fields, including counseling and therapy, social work, education, physical health and wellness, marketing and sales, law and forensics, environmental sustainability, and human resources. The BA program emphasizes real-world applications through community engagement, and is designed for students who want marketable skills they can use to enter the workforce immediately upon graduation.

In the field of psychology, a study is conducted on the subject: “Personality in extreme conditions and crisis situations of life”, where a search is made for ways to solve urgent scientific and practical problems of psychological safety of a person in extreme conditions and crisis situations of life, criteria, research methods, strategies for psychological assistance to people in extreme and crisis situations, methods (programs) of counteracting the destructive influence of extremist religious organizations, forensic ichological examination in criminal and civil proceedings

In the field of education, a study is being conducted on the topic: “Network educational interaction in the training of the teacher of the information society”, including such issues as the subjectivity of the teacher and the practice of developing the subjective position of students; content of the teacher’s digital competence .; determination of qualitative and quantitative indicators of a teacher’s professional activity in a mixed and virtual reality environment; approaches to building models, content, value characteristics of tutorial support in distance education.

 

 

Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies

 

Through an excellent undergraduate major and nationally and internationally distinguished graduate program, we offer students opportunities to think deeply and analytically about questions fundamental to the place of the person in the natural and social world. Because of the faculty and traditions, the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies is consistently ranked in the Russian top 10, alongside Moscow State University and St. Petersburg  State University. Current areas of excellence include ethics, the philosophy of mind and cognitive science, epistemology, the history of philosophy and the philosophy of science.

Department of Social Sciences

 

School of Arts and Humanities hosts one of the best sociology programs in the country as evidenced by the quality of the faculty and the recognition it receives. During the past 10 years, we have been consistently ranked in the top 10 of all sociology programs in Russia.

Our undergraduate majors provide a foundation for careers in many professional fields, and for graduate training as a sociologist in academia, government, business, and community agencies.

Our graduate training prepares students for careers in research and teaching. Our faculty includes senior members who are nationally and internationally acknowledged authorities in their fields, and some of the best young scholars in the country.

Department of Physical Culture and Sports

 

The Department of Physical Education enjoys training and sports facilities well equipped to satisfy most demanding requirements.  Graduates' career opportunities:

•          teaching and coaching in all types of education institutions and in sports clubs by type

•          management in the area of physical education and sport at local, regional, and federal levels

•          recreation and rehabilitation physical education

•          research.

The course participants will acquire modern methods of physical education and sports training, and physical condition assessment to diagnose health level of people they train. They will learn to distinguish between major and minor factors affecting health level and acquire the methodology of wellness training in popular sports. The Department is dedicated to the cause of shaping young and promising sports persons in the coming years. The main goal of the Department of Physical Education is to provide the training of highly qualified personnel to work in the field of physical education and sports. Trainers use up-to-date educational technologies, a solid material base, and faculty research and teachings to realize these goals. Other projects of paramount importance include: the training of sportsmen for Russian national teams in various sports ensuring their social adaptation after finishing sporting career, and the establishment of social partnerships within state, municipal, and organizational authorities that work in sport in order to improve the sphere of physical education.

The Department aims to prepare excellent physical education teachers, administrators and managers of sports and physical education, and professional researchers on sports science; thus, we provide our students with best-qualified hardware and software facilities to fulfill our ultimate goal of education.

This program aims to develop individuals who will have the competencies to function effectively as science-oriented sports specialists prepared to work in an environment characterized by technological advances.

The Department of Physical Education has collaborated with Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport, Youth and Tourism (Moscow), National State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Health n.a. P.F. Lesgaft (St. Petersburg) and Belarusian State University jf Physical Education The Department aims to analyze and develop vectors numerous fields including modern higher physical education, high performance within mass and youth-sport programs, the implementation of popular and high-quality educational programs for students. Furthermore, the Department is working to ensure that skilled sportsmen can adapt into professional society after they finish their sporting careers. 

Department of Physical Education

The top priorities of the Department of Physical Education are organization and conduction of classes in the disciplines: "Physical Culture" and "Elective Courses in Physical Education" under the bachelor and specialist degrees, implemented in FEFU. Moreover, the department is creating conditions for the development of physical education and sports among students and employees of FEFU.

65 faculty work in the Department of Physical Education, including 23 Masters of Sports, 10 candidates for Masters of Sports, more than 25 Honored Coaches of Russia and referees of high qualification.

Elective physical education courses provide students with an opportunity to choose sports specialties, such as: football, volleyball, basketball, swimming, aerobics, martial arts and others. Training sessions are organized at an extensive sports base, including pools, gyms, aerobics rooms, an outdoor stadium, and tennis courts. During the academic semester, the Department of Physical Education organizes classes with more than 8 000 students.
