The project is aimed at development and introduction of modules on information literacy (including an Online Information Literacy Platform) in the partner universities. The project is designed to enhance information literacy, build up an ability to work with library resources not only among students, but also the general public for lifelong learning.

Within the framework of the project, the experience of foreign EU colleagues was studied and applied to create courses to promote the development of information literacy skills for successful integration into the international scientific community, fill in knowledge gaps about the rules of academic writing and standards for presenting research results, including the referencing and citation rules and copyright standards.

Project Results

The main stage of the DIREKT “Developing Trans-regional information literacy for lifelong learning and the knowledge economy” project has been completed. One of its most significant results is a package of modules devoted to Information Literacy and Academic Writing training as well as the DIREKT Online Information Literacy Platform both of which are key to project sustainability.

These modules were introduced into the curricula of different undergraduate and graduate programs of the Oriental Institute – School of Regional and International Studies of FEFU and are taught on regular basis.

You can get acquainted with the modules and use them as reference or teaching materials. Below is the list of the modules with the links:

Modules:
Module 1: English for Specific Purposes

(Libraries, library terminology and library access): this is targeted at all partners and will be integrated into official university structures and where feasible public and National libraries.

Relating information literacy to academic writing.

This module is for graduate students to improve academic writing in study, research and publication relating Information Literacy.

Module 8: English for Professional Purposes

English for Professional Purposes: aimed at all stakeholders to enhance competence in professional writing, to develop skills in successfully managing professional correspondence and the job application process.

DIREKT ONLINE INFORMATION LITERACY PLATFORM

The DIREKT Online Information Literacy (IL) Module Platform, is one of the key deliverables in the DIREKT project to ensure the sustainability of the DIREKT project results and for promoting the importance of Information Literacy in the Partner Countries into the future.

The Platform, which is a product of Workpackage four of the DIREKT project, offers our Partners in Russia, China and Kazakhstan a highly inventive, innovative and unique collaborative treasury of information literacy (IL) resources, expert content in the IL field and library related content.

As was envisaged in the original project application, the Platform both enriches and supports the highly innovative eight module DIREKT Curriculum for Information Literacy that is being taught physically in classrooms in the Partner Countries, and is a vitally important online presence which supports the eight module Curriculum.
