Safety Guidelines

The city of Vladivostok is hosting more than 50,000 students at its universities. Unfortunately, statistics of the crimes committed against students indicate that every third case is committed through the direct or indirect fault of the victim, related to his/her carelessness, negligence, excessive self-reliance on his/her own strength in ensuring his/her safety. Therefore, we would like to remind you of the necessary precautions. 

Safety Instructions

• Do not pass your Hotel ID to others or invite unfamiliar people into your room. 
• Be cautious of dubious acquaintances in the city, when choosing a company, inviting you to visit or drinking alcoholic drinks with strangers (and acquaintances as well) who can use your helpless condition with the use of potent medications to commit a crime;
• Having noticed suspicious persons on the territory of the hotel complex or other campus facilities, please inform the security guard and the administrator of the building;
• Having become an eyewitness of the committed offense, find the opportunity to inform the security guard and the administrator of the building or the police in a timely manner by phone. “02” (“020” from a mobile phone). While reporting to the police tell who is calling, from what place, what has happened and where, name and location of the victim and witnesses of the incident; marks of the attackers.
• While walking in the city or being on excursions, try not to make undesirable contacts with people who organize various games, prize draws through participation in the lottery. All these games, despite the available documents in the hands of the organizers, are illegal and are qualified by criminal law as fraud. Joining a gambling game, you automatically become an accomplice in the committed (offense), crime and are liable under the administrative (criminal) legislation;
• When visiting crowded places, markets, and on public transport, take care about your property safety so as not to become easy prey for pocket thieves; do not store money and documents in easily accessible pockets of clothes and bags and do not leave them in plastic bags;
• Be wary of strangers offering to take part in the sharing of the money found on the street; be aware this is a fraud trick;
• Do not talk to strangers offering to exchange foreign currency, even if they are near the exchange office. Exchange money only in official exchange points;
  
• In the evening, it is better to get home with your friends, acquaintances, and people close to you;
• Try to walk in the lighted streets, avoiding dark areas;
• Pay attention to those who are close to you;
• Do not enter the entry or elevator with strangers, give them the opportunity to go first;
• It is advisable to have special marks on your personal belongings that are known only to you;
• Do not trust values and things to unfamiliar people, casual acquaintances who have come to trust you with criminal intentions;
• Do not take things and items from strangers for storage or transfer, there may be items prohibited for free circulation (weapons, drugs, etc.) may be there;
• At parties and clubs, do not try "weed" or anything else. This is usually the first step to drug addiction. Since the first use of the drug, even the lightest one, the addict lives for no more than three years.
• Do not get into cars with strangers, even if you are in a hurry at least take a taxi and tell your relatives and friends which car you are in and where you are going;
• If you see a suspicious person or several standing on the road, especially in the dark, never answer questions like “What time is it?” or “Give me a smoke”. These questions are designed to distract your attention. So as soon as you look at your watch or reach into your pocket, you’ll get a blow to the head. More experienced robbers make smarter. They don’t say anything at all, they attack from behind. So look back and around, be careful! Do not listen to the player on the road. Try to go along with other people.
• If you have to walk past a suspicious group of young people, look them in the face. In this way, you will quickly react in the event of an attack and better remember their signs. For these reasons, they may not risk attacking you and wait for someone else. If you are attacked, after all, act as you prefer. Try to fight back and run away or give everything you have. Feel free to scream. The main thing is to remember the number, the marks of the attackers, where they have gone, and be able to quickly repeat all this;
• Do not demonstrate your cell phone without necessity, especially when you are surrounded by strangers; 
• Under no circumstances should you give your cell phone to strangers or unfamiliar people in order to call relatives, colleagues, etc., they may hide with it. In order not to provoke a conflict, say: “I am sorry, but the battery is run out”, “I don't have enough money in my account” or something like that;
• Do not leave personal items (bag, jacket, coat, etc.), cell phone, laptop, and other mobile devices unattended both in the room and in public places (library, cinema, cafe, hospital, etc.) Avoid solitary and dark places. Do not think that personal things can be stolen from anyone, but not from you;
• If you become the victim of an attack, don't actively resist the offender if he is physically stronger than you. Try to remember the appearance of the robber, his or her marks (scars on the face, birthmarks, speech defects, etc.) and immediately report the incident to the police by phone. “02” (“020” from a mobile phone), and not the next day, as some victims prefer. If the crime has occurred in a public place, it is necessary to attract maximum attention from citizens who could help in the timely arrest of the criminals; most of the thefts and robberies of cell phones about which the police were informed in a timely manner were solved shortly after the incident;
• Remember: each cell phone has a unique international IMEI number, it is displayed on the phone display, phone case and battery compartment and packaging box with a barcode. The absence of these details indicates that the phone has been stolen.
