Assessment of the stage-by-stage inclusion
of reinforcing spans of road bridges in operation
Abstract: Presently a lot of road bridges are still being used, which were designed and built quite a long time ago. Maintenance and operation of both federal and territorial road networks, including bridge structures, assumes preservation of their performance in compliance with the requirements of current regulations. For bridges designed according to obsolete standards, as well as for those having already lost their former transport and operational qualities, such a solution may be carried out in the form of repair and maintenance works. One of the critical issues in such works is provision of the normative load-carrying capacity of load-bearing structures of bridges in operation, sufficient quality of construction and proper care of which leads to a high degree of their safety and enables extension of their service life. Provision of the required load capacity parameters can be achieved by reinforcement of structures and addition of elements - external or embedded, depending on the type of structure, its condition and available technology of works performance. This article has undertaken the analysis of the known and highly-demanded method of reinforcement of re-concrete beams by external reinforcement as the most sparing for primary structures, technological and available on most sites. The novelty in the consideration of the issue is believed to be a quantitative assessment of stage of inclusion of reinforcement elements in the operation, the possibility of choosing the depth of repair impact and the control of opened load capacity reserve. Keywords: span, bridge, main beam, external reinforcement, strand, anchor, load capacity.
