The issues of endurance when docking vessels in floating docks (review)
Abstract: Large capacity docks are relatively infrequently loaded with commensurate vessels. In this context, one of the ways to enhance the operational efficiency of docks is handling ships in groups. The mechanical stress-strain state of the structure including a steel pontoon dock with vessels in it is hard to calculate and it may entail failures in its endurance.
Of particular interest is the case of a large-capacity vessel and several small-displacement ones making up a dock group. Large displacement vessels exert obviously the greatest force on the stress-strain state of the structure. If their keel-track cribbing does not catch one of the end pontoons or load only a small section of it, the deformations of the lateral bending and buckling of this pontoon will differ considerably from those of the adjacent one. It may result in a surge of reactions of the dock supports.
An adequate assessment of the stress-strain state of the dock intended for a group of vessels as a complicated spatial structure requires modern analyses and a scrupulous approach to the source data. Ship designers naturally do not take into consideration group dockage when drafting docks. Moreover, they proceed from dry docks, to which the issues under consideration are unrelated. As to shipyards, the qualification and potential of dock designers working there are insufficient to carry out appropriate calculations.
The present article deals with certain features of group dockage in floating docks related mainly to the provision of the endurance of the structure. The object of the study is the floating dock with lifting capacity of 80,000 tons. The calculations were performed for certain real dockages with participation of aircraft carriers of the project 1143 and the nuclear missile cruiser of the project 1144.
Key words: dockage, to provide endurance, dock supports.
