Numerical simulation of the groundwater filtration process through
a rectangular dam of homogeneous soil on a waterproof base

Abstract: Currently, in the practice of hydraulic engineering construction, modern methods of numerical simulation are used for filtration calculations. In the proposed article, the modeling of groundwater filtration through a homogeneous earthen dam with vertical slopes located on an impermeable base was performed. Using the GEO-SLOPE GeoStudio software for hydrodynamic calculations, the main characteristics of the filtration flow were determined and the depression curves were plotted. To confirm the reliability of the results, they were compared with those calculated by the approved method. The conclusion provides recommendations on the use of boundary conditions to obtain higher modeling accuracy.

Keywords: groundwater filtration, spacing, depression curve, numerical validation.
