Stability conditions for lifting system of surface effect ships with flexible bags

Abstract: The mathematical model of the surface effect ship’s lifting system has been derived from the mass balance equation and the flexible bag’s equation. Stability conditions for the system “air cushion – flexible bag” has been obtained. The influence of design parameters on the ship’s stability is analyzed. It is shown that the tendency to unstable behavior grows as vehicle’s mass becomes larger.

Keywords: ship’s stability, air cushion, SES, cobblestone oscillation, Routh–Hurwitz criterion.
