The concept of the biotop-city as a landscape architectural system

Abstract. In this research the city environment is regarded as a landscape architectural system where spatial characteristics of urban landscapes are one of the leading biodiversity recovery factors - irrespectively of the site location (inland, coastal or wetland) and the purpose of the designed object. This design method is based on spatial identity of anthropogenic landscapes and their natural equivalents, generated in urban areas revitalization process and representing the abiotic basis for natural systems development.

The generality of the approach to the restoration of the biodiversity of land, coastal and bottom landscapes of the urban area was studied on the examples of modern experience in integrating systems of architectural and natural. To achieve spatial characteristics of biotopes favorable for natural systems, both architectural and landscape methods can be used equally. It is noted that the surfaces that form the bottom and land anthropogenic landscapes are additionally given a texture favorable for the integration of elements of natural systems. It is concluded that natural systems restored in the urban environment will be distinguished by an increased density of biodiversity, a combination of diverse natural systems, for example, natural systems of temperate and more northern latitudes, in smaller areas than is observed in the natural environment.
