A mathematical model of a massif of rocks in the conditions
of zonal failure around an unlined deep circular opening
Abstract: Lately, a major share of mineral wealth has been extracted from great depth. The practice shows that the mine development in deep horizons has been coupled with rock bumps and the zonal failure of massif around the underground mines which makes up a set of fractured zones alternating with relatively unfractured ones. The classical models of continuum mechanics adopted to describe the stress in a rock mass under the rock failure proves inefficient due to the impossibility to take into account the oscillating mode of failure, the continuity violation, etc. In her paper, the author presents a mathematical model of the rock massif affected by the zonal failure around the unfixed mines in great depth, the non-Euclidean model of continuum mechanics being involved, too. She introduces the hierarchical levels of rock failures and suggests an outline to determine the parameters of the model.
Key words: rock massif, zonal failure, unlined opening, non-Euclidean model, hierarchical levels.
