Damages caused to the bulwarks of reefer ships

Abstract: To increase the efficiency of the fishing fleet is the most important task for the fishing industry. Its solution means the renewal of the fleet and the reduction of non-operating demurrage, when, most of the time, ship are under repair. I was decided at the State level that the reefer ships of the fishing fleet should be built and renovated in the domestic yards. Reductions in the period of repairing refrigerators can be achieved by adjusting the requirements of regulatory documents for designing the most damaged structures of the hull, as well as for their modernisation in the early stages of operation. One may achieve a significantly shorter repair time of reefer ships by adjusting the requirements of regulatory documents on designing the most damageable parts of the hull of the ship as well as modernising them at the early stages of operation. Experts show constant attention to the problem of designing bulwarks, as one of the most damaged structures on the refrigerators. Despite various variants of construction being introduced into their design, the bulwarks go on taking numerous damages during the operation. The article presents a review of the condition of the reefer fleets both in Russia and abroad. It examines the ships in service in three sea basins, presents the differentiation of the reefer ships by the years and countries of their construction, and offers developmental prospects for the reefer fleet of the Russian Far East. The authors provide the results of the inspection of the bulwarks of the reefer ships built in Russia and abroad that are in service in the sea basin of the Russian Far East. They also provide an analysis of the structural design of the bulwarks and identify the causes of damages. They have compared the structural formation of the inspected ships with their designing process and determined the direction to the improvement of their repairability.
