Asian and African Studies |
The Oriental Institute established by the Emperor Nicholas II of Russia in 1899, created the educational programs that have developed into today's FEFU Asian Studies. The ‘Asian and African Studies” Bachelor and Master programs include the profound studies of oriental languages, literature, history, economy, religion, and politics of China, Japan, South, and North Korea. |
Foreign Region Studies |
The programs in this area combine some aspects of oriental studies with the regional features of economy, geography, history, and policy of the countries of APR. The principal idea of these studies is to form practical skills in intercultural communication, international relations, marketing, and management. |
International Relations Programs |
(Bachelor and Master Degree) administered by FEFU’s Institute of Oriental Studies-School of Regional and International Studies and aimed at both Russian and foreign students. They focus on a wide spectrum of international issues in politics, economics, culture, security as well as the currents reshaping the international landscape. These programs have a cross-disciplinary curriculum, offering courses in diverse fields such as Political Science, International Political Economy, Security Studies, Regional Studies, Russian Studies, Law, Languages, and Intercultural Communication. |
Political Science |
These studies prepare teachers, professional politicians, political analysts and consultants, and poly-technologists focused on the contemporary political and juridical standards and economic integration in the Asia-Pacific Region. |
Linguistics |
The program specializes in European languages (English, German, French, and Spanish) and cultures, as well as in Business English and methodology of foreign language teaching. The option of studying Chinese as a second language is available. Graduates of these program work in intercultural communication and in other spheres as linguists, teachers, interpreters and translators.
Field of professional activity of graduates includes solving complex problems of theoretical fundamental and applied linguistics, designing and maintaining objects of linguistic technologies, linguistic analysis. |
Fundamental and Applied Linguistics |
The program is specialized in phenomena of all levels of language structure (phonetics, morphology, vocabulary, syntax, discourse, semantics), electronic language resources (linguistic corpuses, dictionaries, thesauri, ontologies, databases and knowledge bases), linguistic technologies used in electronic systems for various purposes (search engines, machine translation systems, control systems, sound processing systems, expert systems, electronic language resources). English and a European language are taught. Linguistics, mathematics, and information technology are studied during their training. Graduates work in the field of theoretical and applied linguistics; participate in the work of research teams conducting research on problems of linguistics; develop and create linguistic support of electronic information and intelligent systems for various purposes, involving the automatic processing of the spoken language and written texts in natural language. |
Philology (Foreign languages) |
The program prepares specialists in the English language for positions in a wide variety of professions including teaching and translating. |
Philology (Russian language and literature) |
The program prepares teachers of Russian language and literature including teaching experts of Russian as a foreign language. It also trains specialists in mass media, advertising, business and scientific area mastering different styles and genres. The tasks of both programs include:
